Novatel Wireless MiFi® Rocks the Kansas City Irish Festival!
John Wenzel, an IT consultant from Kansas City, has been working with the Kansas City Irish Festival for many years and as the festival has grown. John has been looking for a way to stream video of live performances. This past year John accomplished this lofty goal with the MiFi® Intelligent Mobile Hotspot from Novatel Wireless.
"We never had a way to get a connection to the Internet out on the Fest grounds. With a large crowd of 94,000 over three days, providing a mobile always-on connection in the middle of this crowd would be impossible. Not to mention the need for a really long power cord!" John said. "But with the flexibility of a MiFi® unit, we were able to quickly move locations, running to catch performances between four different stages."
Armed with his MiFi®, a simple webcam and two laptops John was able to upload streaming audio and video (in stereo) via one computer, while at the same time watch the downloaded broadcast from the KCIF home page on the second laptop, with both running off a single MiFi®. "Not only did [the MiFi®] work, it worked flawlessly!" John added.
The feedback from the online audience was tremendous as people from all around the world were able to catch their favorite performer live. As they were the first Irish Festival in the country to provide live content online, John is now receiving requests from several major Irish Festivals to help them set up the same type of online feeds.
"With such success, we're already making plans to expand our MiFi® use in 2010!" John added.
Congratulations John, this is a truly exceptional use of the device and a great representation of the unlimited uses for the MiFi® Intelligent Mobile Hotspot. Good luck at the Kansas City Irish Festival in 2010, we'll be watching online!
