Installation Instructions: Mac OS X (Tiger) with Novatel Drivers for EVDO modems

Introduction

The following describes how to connect to the Internet using a Novatel Wireless EVDO modem and an Apple® computer running: Macintosh OS X v10.3.9 or greater.

  • Instructions and screenshots have been done with Tiger, but Panther should be similar.
  • Leopard instructions and screenshots are different and covered in another document.

Requirements

Before you can connect to service provider with a Novatel Wireless modem, you will need the following:

  • An active account with a service provider
  • A Novatel Wireless activated EVDO modem
    • PC Card Models - S620, V620, S720, V720
    • ExpressCard34 Models - V640, XS620, XV620, EX720, MX720, V740
    • USB Models - MCD3000, U720, USB720, MC727, U727, USB727, MC760, U760, USB760. CC760, C777
    • MiFi Model - MiFi2200
  • An Apple®: computer with the appropriate device interface (PC Card, ExpressCard34 or USB)

Setting Up Your Equipment

  1. Power on your Apple®::computer.
  2. Close all open files / applications because you will need to reset your computer to complete installation.
  3. Download 20418672_Novatle_MacDriverInstaller_v3.0.13-001-PS.zip
  4. Unzip the file and run the installer package - 3G_Drivers_v3.0.13-PS.pkg

    Select Destination, Installation Type,... when Install completed successfully | Restart

  7. Insert the modem into the computer.

Setting Up the Network Connections

In this section, you will configure the modem network connection settings.

  1. Make sure the card is completely inserted.

    If your computer has this Icon on the the desktop CD icon , Eject by dragging to the Trash. eject trash icon

  2. Select System Preferences from the Apple (Apple menu) menu.

  4. Click the Network button in the System Preferences window.

  5. In Network | Show - Select Novatel Wireless CDMA Modem

    Click '+' to add

     

  6. Now create a configuration. Enter the #777 in Telephone Number Field. Leave the Account Name and Password field blank.

  8. In the Network window, select Modem to configure Modem to use HSDPA Support drivers.
  9. Pick Modem

Opening an Internet Connection

Click the Phone icon in the Menu Bar and select Connect

    While connecting the status will show in Menu Bar

OR

Open Network Preferences and select Novatel Wireless device, configuration and click Connect.

Surfing the Internet

Once you are connected to the Internet, you can use any Internet application, such as Safari, Firefox, Mail, and iChat, to surf the Internet, check email, and connect using VPN, etc.

Disconnecting From the Internet

To disconnect from the Internet, click the Phone icon in the menu bar and select Disconnect.

You can also disconnect by clicking the Disconnect button in the Internet Connect application as shown above.

Uninstalling the Novatel Wireless Modem Software

To remove Novatel Wireless Modem files from your machine, delete the following files (requires Administrator permissions):

/System/Library/Extensions/NovatelWireless3G.kext
/System/Library/Extensions/NovatelWirelessFilter.kext
